How one humble ingredient supports energy, recovery and immunity.
It looks like a humble savoury flake, but nutritional yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) is one of nature's most concentrated sources of B vitamins, trace minerals and the antioxidant glutathione. It is one of the active ingredients in both Better Every Day and Better Hydration.
A complete B vitamin complex
Nutritional yeast is naturally rich in the full B complex, including thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), B6 and folate (B9). These vitamins act as the spark plugs of energy metabolism: they turn carbohydrate, fat and protein from food into usable cellular energy, support red blood cell production, and help keep the nervous system running smoothly.
Trace minerals that matter
Those same flakes deliver bioavailable selenium, zinc and chromium. Selenium and zinc reinforce the body’s antioxidant defences and immune function, while chromium helps regulate glucose metabolism. Yeast can convert inorganic selenium into organic selenomethionine, a form with roughly twice the bioavailability of standard mineral forms.
A natural source of glutathione
Saccharomyces cerevisiae holds glutathione at concentrations up to 10 mM, making it one of the richest natural sources of this molecule. Often called the master antioxidant, glutathione neutralises the reactive oxygen species generated during exercise and everyday metabolism, helping protect cells and support recovery after exertion.
Proven in dogs, not just in theory
This is one ingredient with real canine research behind it. In controlled studies, Saccharomyces cerevisiae supplementation altered circulating immune cells and antioxidant status in healthy adult dogs. In large breed dogs put through an endurance exercise programme, a yeast derived postbiotic helped modulate the inflammatory response and supported muscle recovery shortly after exercise, pointing to real benefits for active dogs.
Why it is in both blends
Nutritional yeast contributes to Better Every Day and Better Hydration in four ways: energy from its B vitamin complex, recovery support from glutathione, selenium and zinc, immune resilience from its effect on immune cell activity and gut health, and a naturally savoury flavour dogs enjoy.
